Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are trudging through the last few weeks of winter but we still are relying on our furnaces, especially during cold nights. There’s not a lot that is worse than going to bed at night and realizing your furnace won’t start up. If your furnace won’t turn on, here are a couple things you can check yourself prior to calling Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning.

Check Air Filters

You should replace standard air filters monthly. If you fail to do so, they can end up clogged, obstructing air flow and causing your furnace to malfunction.

Check Your Thermostat

Start by turning the thermostat up a few degrees to get the furnace to turn on. If the actual room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the furnace won’t run. Also, confirm the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem obvious, but make sure the power switch next to the heating equipment is “On.” Even gas heating systems use electricity so make sure the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch has not been accidently switched to the “Off” position.

If you check all these things and your furnace will still not kick on, give Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call at 704-464-4307 and we’ll come out and get you taken care of as soon as possible.
