The season of spring may have arrived but in Charlotte it’s not all warm and comfy outside. Your furnace has been going for months trying to keep the inside of your home comfortable, so now is the time to make sure you’re giving your furnace some TLC. If you hear abnormal noises or the heating system has stopped operating, you may be in need of a furnace repair. If you notice a strong gas smell, you almost surely need furnace repair work and you should call Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning as soon as possible.

Before you assume that you need a furnace repair technician, read these tips from Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning.

  • Confirm your thermostat has been changed to “heat.”

It may sound ridiculous, but we are always running and life happens, so it can be easy to miss the simple fixes. Not remembering to change over the thermostat can make you think you need furnace repair when really you can remedy the problem with a literal flip of the switch!

  • Check your furnace switch.

On the topic of switches, make sure your furnace switch is on the up, or “on” position. As before, an easy miss, especially considering this switch isn’t one you might look at regularly. Most furnaces have built-in delays so make sure when you turn on your furnace you give it a few minutes to get going before panicking about calling our furnace repair man.

  • Replace your furnace air filter.

You should swap out your home’s air filters around every three months to help your furnace run more efficiently and prolong any furnace repair work. A filthy air filter is one of the most recurrent reasons for poor performance in furnaces, and they can also be a breeding ground for germs and cause you and your loved ones to become sick. Change your filter to keep both your furnace and your family healthy.

  • Check the circuit breaker.

Check your circuit breaker panel to see if the breaker that controls your furnace is in the middle position or the “off” position. If the breaker has ended up in the middle position, cycle the breaker to “off” and then reset it to the “on” position.

Furnace repairs can get pricey, so avoid a possible issue altogether with regular maintenance from Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning. However, if you are ever in need of furnace repair, we are available 24/7/365 to help you with all your heating needs.
